Desktop ShuffleDownload Support
Desktop Shuffle is a free tool that automatically downloads new images from subscribed SmugMug galleries and then sets them as your desktop image. It comes with preference pane where you can manage subscription to galleries, frequency of checks for new images and other parameters. You can also request updates manually from provided menu extra. Desktop Shuflle works with any public gallery hosted by SmugMug. You can have your desktop shuffle through your vacation pictures for example.

Download and Installation
You can download SmugMug Desktop Shuflle and use it free of charge. Alternative links to download locations are listed in the side bar. To install, double click on preference pane icon in Finder, System Preference application will launch and guide you through the installation process. Important: when you check “Show in menu bar” for the first time, you may need to allow launching helper application “IDShuffleHelper” (that dialog may also take a bit of time to show up):
I have few computers (at work, at home, etc) and I’m tired of manually setting up my desktop image on all of them every time I come up with something new or upload new photos from a recent vacation.
Why not RSS ?
I have explored using RSS feeds in details and it seems rather cumbersome for this purpose for number of reasons. For example, normally RSS feed only shows last few entries. Also, if RSS feed embeds images then it is heavy to download or otherwise, if doesn’t have images, it should have an extended property pointing to the image or provide a way to deduct image url which means it requires adoptation by content providers (and their hosts).
What about private galleries ?
While it would be very easy to add support for private gallieries (in which case user would be required to authenticate with SmugMug), unless there is strong interest I will not be working on that feature, post a comment if you want this!
What about other services like Flickr or Picaso ?
Right now I do not support them although most of the code is dealing with abstract galleries, it would be relatively easy to write an extention for any other service given that they provide match functionality in APIs. However unless there is strong interest, I probably will not be extending Desktop Shuffle at this point, post a comment if you want this!
